about ADEKplus

ADEKplus* in the Cystic Fibrosis community

ADEKplus is a food supplement developed for people with a fat soluble vitamin deficiency resulting from pancreatic exocrine insufficiency such as commonly found with Cystic Fibrosis.

Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease that causes the formation of very thick mucus in the lungs, digestive tract and other organs.

This mucous blocks the ducts - decreasing the availability of pancreatic enzymes, which are important for the digestion of food and the availability of essential nutrients from food (such as vitamins, minerals and trace elements). People with untreated Cystic Fibrosis often suffer from malnutrition. Good nutritional status is an important prognostic factor. Inadequate nutrition causes susceptibility to infectious diseases, and physical and mental weakness.

The nutritional requirements of people with Cystic Fibrosis are much more demanding than those of healthy individuals. Sufficient intake of fats, essential fatty acids, proteins, sugars, probiotics and vitamins is essential for healthier living and avoiding complications.

Only one or two tablets per day

It is currently standard practice for people with Cystic Fibrosis to be prescribed a minimum of vitamin E, vitamin K and ‘multivits’ (a mix of vitamin A + vitamin B). Patients may also be prescribed additional vitamins, most regularly vitamin D. ADEKplus allows patients to condense these to only one or two tablets per day.

Easy and pleasant to take

ADEKplus is chewable with a pleasant tangy taste, providing a welcome change and a break from an already substantial regime of pills.

ADEKplus and long-term health

Malabsorption of the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K is likely in most people with cystic fibrosis, especially those who are pancreatic exocrine insufficient.
Without supplements such as ADEKplus, blood levels of these vitamins may become low and occasionally deficiency symptoms can occur. These Fat soluble vitamins are important for growth, bone strength and bone metabolism.
Please discuss with your doctor or healthcare professional about long-term use of ADEKplus
